Sunday will be Mothers’s Day in the US and Canada – a day traditionally celebrated online by people in Europe having panic attacks when they see the topic trending on social media.

To mark the occasion, the Trumps held a Military Mother’s Day reception at the White House, where the First Lady gave the assembled mothers of members of the forces a welcome speech. As is the custom for any speeches delivered in the vicinity of Donald Trump, she used it to praise him.

Here’s how that worked out for her.

That extraordinary claim took everybody in the room by surprise. Presumably, they remember –
