Nick Knowles’ knickers are in a twist in the I’m a Celeb camp – 12 comments that get to the bottom of it
Nick Knowles, currently languishing in the Australian jungle on I’m a Celebrity, caused a bit of a stir when he admitted to feeling uncomfortable about the idea of touching the knickers of his female campmates. It would have been understandable had they been wearing them, but he was talking about the laundry. To muddy the croc-filled waters further, he asked John Barrowman, the only openly gay man in the camp, to do the job for him.
Where do you stand on 'Nicker'-gate? Was @MrNickKnowles getting in a twist, or was he right to stick to his ways? #ImACeleb pic.twitter.com/dYw0OfrOWs

John’s response seemed pretty reasonable.
“Why do you feel uncomfortable, it’s just an item of clothing, it’s not inappropriate.”
“Why is it ok for me a gay man to pick it up but it’s not ok for a straight man? It’s just a piece of clothing.”
The internet was divided. Some thought it was subconsciously homophobic, some thought it was chivalrous, others thought he should just get on with it. A bit like Brexit.

Nick Knowles, as a leading feminist, I can inform you it's FINE to pick up women's knickers. Unless you're gonna drape them over your nose and walk around shouting "CONDOR!" #IAC2018

nick refusing to pick up or touch women's underwear that is literally a piece of clothing but allowing a gay man to do it is literally the most ridiculous thing I've EVER seen #ImACeleb

Old fashioned or not… you still went to the only gay man in the group to do it for you and that’s not okay #ImACeleb

I think it’s an odd thing to be seen as ‘being a gentleman’ by not touching them, it kinda hints that he’s incapable of seeing a woman’s knickers in a non sexual way https://t.co/WcPtosj5mT

Nick makes the same mistake many straight men make, thinking gay equals being a girl. It’s unconsciously homophobic.

Yes there only a pair of knickers, BUT @MrNickKnowles is fab for sticking to his gentlemanly ways. He's been such a true gent giving his pillow and food up, now suddenly people are having a go coz he wont pick up knickers, talk about double standards #ImACeleb

I stand for individuality. Everyone is different and has different values and thats cool. As my old Dad would say, it would be a dull world if we were all the same

If it were really about being old fashioned, why ask John to pick up the girl's knickers? Why not ask the girl?

11. We’re not sure how he’d feel about being referred to like this, but it’s a point of view.

As long as he’s not sniffing them I can’t see a problem 👍

I reckon he was just trying to get out of doing the work, personally. Before you know it, he’ll be telling us that he feels uncomfortable about eating kangaroo penis because he’s “old-fashioned”. Yeah, right.
Maybe we should all listen to @Mitchas23.
Y all the fuss? No need to make a big thong about it 😬
