Sigourney Weaver signs up for spin-off Alien sitcom
Sitcom News: TV pundits were enthralled today by news that Sigourney Weaver, star of the Alien franchise, has agreed to reprise her most famous role for a new sitcom called Ripley & The Bitch, due to start filming next month.
“It’s basically an odd-couple story of two roommates who run a book store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan,” she told reporters, “and all the trouble they get into. Ripley’s a recovering astronaut struggling to make a new life for herself after the horrors of the past. Sandra is the vicious omnivore terror from an alien planet that she just can’t leave behind.”
Due to go out on HBO early next year, the show is described by producers as “Like Will & Grace, but with a tad more senseless violence.”
It will feature the pair constantly getting on each other’s nerves – Ripley never does the washing up, Sandra is always making holes in the floor whenever she cuts herself – and their struggle to find real love.
“It’s pretty difficult to keep a relationship going when you’re a bloodthirsty monster from space,” Weaver quipped.
“You never know how long to leave it before calling them, then before you know where you are, you’re tearing their internal organs out with a disinterested claw.”
The show is expected to feature cameos from such notable Hollywood names as George Clooney, Ashton Kutcher and John Hurt. The first episode will introduce Charlie Sheen as a blind date for Sandra.
