Here’s something to take your mind off the state of global politics – does Grandpa Joe from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have long fingernails solely for the purpose of shoving scoops of chang up his schnozz?

Here’s a closer look:

Some on the internet clearly think that Joe is putting the Charlie into the Chocolate Factory.

But after a little digging, we found a more likely (and innocent) suggestion.

Indeed – Jack Albertson, who played Joe in the 1971 version of the film – was also a comedian, dancer, singer and musician, so this theory holds up.

But it doesn’t mean you don’t have to stop hating Grandpa Joe, there’s even a Facebook group you can join.
