Prankster modifies Hollywood sign to read ‘Hollyweed’ is the first good news of 2017
In a stunt that’s the first good news of 2017 a prankster has changed the Hollywood sign to read “Hollyweed”.
Spotted by many celebs including Snoopdog:

And Stephen Fry:

Looking carefully at the sign you can see the effect has been created by using a couple of black CND flags to block out the space.

Interestingly this isn’t the first time that Hollywood has been changed to Hollyweed – a similar stunt was pulled in 1976 by Danny Finegood.
On January 1, 1976, Tinseltown’s iconic sign read “Hollyweed” after art student Danny Finegood and 3 of his college pals used $50 worth of dark fabric to transform the famous Hollywood landmark temporarily. They had practiced it first on a scale model Finegood had crafted.
It was more than a simple practical joke, Finegood considered it a statement on the relaxed California marijuana law that went into effect that day.
He also turned it in as a school assignment which earned him an “A.”
As @TheUrbanecho says, “Hollywood sign was autocorrected to Hollyweed… 2017 is starting off right.”
