Student’s response after art teacher tells her to ‘dial down the feminism’ goes viral
Here’s what a woman called Alex Ruth Bertulis-Fernandes did when one of her art teachers told her to ‘dial down the feminism’.
We’d love to have seen the look on his face after she showed him her newest piece.
Last week one of my art teachers suggested I 'dial down the feminism.' Today I showed him my newest piece: pic.twitter.com/VrnB4oJ8Cz

Work of art, shared more than 40,000 times and liked more than 150,000 on Twitter.
Let’s hope her art teacher didn’t reply like this.
Well ok. But you still created a middle ground.

There are two settings. There is no middle ground.

That’s still a dial like, let’s say, 1 to 10, & not binary like, say, a switch.
— Carlos J. Cruz (@CarlostheCruz) February 7, 2018
No, because there are two settings. Switches can be round.
— Paula (@astro_noms) February 7, 2018
Ok, but it literally says “dial” on it with, what appears to be, a dial.

*sigh* It has two settings, because you can't just "dial" feminism down. You're either a feminist or you're not. Do you *really need this explained this explicitly?
— Paula (@astro_noms) February 7, 2018
*bigger sigh* I get the metaphor, I just have issues with the presentation.

“Dial down the feminism”. Hence, the dial. This piece is, quite literally, a direct response to that, and that’s why the presentation is effective.

I’m raging from the fucking mansplaining in this fucking thread! Stop fucking mansplaining this woman’s art!!! (Nicole, you tried fighting the good fight).

It got people asking.
Is this available as a print?

Thanks for all the love shown to this piece, it really means the world. I'm a bit overwhelmed so it may take me some time to respond to everyone! I'm considering selling prints/t-shirts – just trying to figure out the best way to do this. Once I do I will share the details here.
