Patrice Evra applauded a fellow World Cup pundit’s analysis – 11 favourite responses online
ITV’s World Cup pundit Patrice Evra managed the unlikely feat of stopping people talking about the football for a minute after some viewers were enraged when he applauded the analysis of a fellow (female) pundit.
Evra was accused of sexism after clapping the analysis of former Chelsea and England international Eni Aluko during the channel’s coverage of Serbia’s match against Costa Rica.
Here are our favourite reactions online (including the moment itself).

LOOOOOOOOL PATRICE EVRA HAS NEVER EVEN CONTEMPLATED TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL TO A GIRL ππ #WorldCup pic.twitter.com/XBqqrtaP2x

Really patronising comments from Patrice Evra about Eni Aluko on the ITV coverage, sheβs an international footballer with over 100 caps, she shouldnβt be congratulated for being able to talk about football for 30 seconds.

I dread to think what Patrice Evra is currently saying to Eniola Aluko in the ITV studio when camera's aren't rolling. He's probably asked her to go fix him a sandwich or something.

Mexico beat Germany. Biggest surprise at this World Cup since Patrice Evra discovered that it was possible for a woman to know things about football.

ITV should not ditch Patrice Evra for being "sexist and patronising" towards Eni Aluko today. They should ditch him for basically admitting he hadn't done his research as well as she had. You can't just turn up in a fancy waistcoat and expect it all on a plate.

Very odd moment seeing Patrice Evra literally applauding Eni Aluko for her punditry. Bizarre. Can you imagine if he had done that to Roy Keane? #WorldCup2018

That moment you realise that Eni Aluko is not only a better pundit but also possibly a better footballer than you ever wanted to be Patrice Evra pic.twitter.com/UqoiqWnKOE

Patrice Evra loves this game . . . just not enough to do any research like Eni, though.

The awkward moment Patrice Evra applauds Eni Aluko after she gives her punditry. No wonder women feel like they have to battle when talking football when you get patronised like that!

Proper watch-through-your-hands stuff on ITV – Evraβs sexist patronising surprise that Eni Aluko – a woman! – knows quite a lot about football π± someone have a word.
— Alexander Smith (@AlexanderSmith) June 17, 2018
Except some people were saying this too.
Re Evra applauding Eni Aluko – Iβve had a former footballer cohost with me at talkSPORT as a guest host and applaud me after we went to the break. βYou were amazing – how do you know all this stuff?β He said with genuine amazement. Baffling.

Evra getting slaughtered for clapping Aluko is ridiculous. Patronising 100% but clearly someone who didnβt know how to articulate his genuine response to good punditry from a woman. Better than most pundits who ignore their new female colleagues.

In conclusion, perhaps this might help.
