Not everyone agreed with it, though. Here’s a bunch of our favourite responses.
1.
Why don't women tell men to smile?
— Dirk Bruere (@dirkbruere) September 3, 2018
2.
Because we know how to mind our own business and let people get on with their days instead of telling them what emotion they should be expressing

3.
Except telling people to smile really is a good bit of advice. It has all kinds of beneficial feedback.

4.
Telling anyone to do anything out of the blue isn't really a good thing man.
— Paul Braddick (@badders1977) September 4, 2018
5.
A man did tell my friend’s dad to “Cheer up, mate” at the airport. He was sad because his dad had just died so he punched him in the face.

6.
I do tell other men to smile as well as women.
Say it to at least 3 strangers a day, luckily not been punched yet

7.
Please don't. People have stuff going on in their lives and don't need other people telling them what to do with their faces.

8.
You dont know that. That person saying its ok to smile might be the difference between them getying home safe and a meeting eith a bus!

9.
I don't agree, but that's okay. I got quite a lot of "Cheer up" as a heavily depressed teen: frankly, I could have done without it. I favour leaving people alone until they ask otherwise. But that's just me.

I’m a subversive. I don’t say a word, but just smile at everyone I meet. It is amazing how many smile back.
