Noel Edmonds on the moon landings will send you into orbit
We’re grateful to Sarah Dempster for sharing this passage from Noel Edmonds’ ‘Multi-Coloured Noel Edmonds Annual’ from 1979 about the moon landings.

And in case that’s tricky to read …
‘July 21 1969 was a big day for mankind – and Noel Edmonds. At 3.56am Neil Armstrong too his historic ‘giant step forward’ and became the first man to set foot on the Moon, and a few hours later at 8.15 my dulcet tones were heard for the first time on Radio 1!
Mind you, I could hardly claim to be pushing back the frontiers of broadcasting progress – my anonymous voice was heard for less than a minute announcing details of a competition. But, needless to say, as far as I was concerned, it was an achievement against which the moon landing paled into insignificance.’
Getting the quote wrong is just the icing on the cake.
I like the way he has a stab at modesty halfway through which completely fails.

I don’t think his heart was in it.

Lots going on there. I think my favourite bit is putting "giant step forward" in quotes, when that's not the quote.

Took us back to the time Edmonds was asked if he minded not being on TV anymore.
