Wondering how strong Storm Ali was? It was this strong …
The world has been battered by hurricanes and storms recently, with the US, the Philippines and China experiencing particularly horrendous natural disasters. The UK and Ireland has just felt the effects of Storm Ali, which neither floated like a butterfly nor stung like a bee, preferring to float like the iceberg that took down the Titanic and sting like – well – all the bees.
Trees were uprooted, bins took to the air and roving reporters had to break out the heavy-duty anoraks, but how strong was it? The Met Office issued an amber alert and warned that 91 mph gusts of wind had been recorded, but Twitter user, Hopeless Surfer had a far more relatable measure.

The storm, which obviously should have been named Brian, had quite an impact.
If anyone in the vicinity of Broughty Beach has seen a tan coloured left brogue, a white satin shirt, two champagne flutes and a fun loving divorcee called either Esther or Edna please get in touch immediately. #StormAli
