This swimmer’s feet after a 157-day swim around Britain are the stuff of nightmares
Hearty congratulations to Ross Edgley who you may know by now has become the first person to swim 1,780 miles around Great Britain.
The adventurer from Grantham swam up to 12 miles a day and eat more than 500 bananas, not setting foot on land once during the entire 157 day swim.
And if you’re wondering what kind of toll that took on his body, well, he endured 37 jellyfish stings, a rotting tongue, suspected torn shoulder and an open neck wound from chaffing that 3kg of Vaseline could do nothing about.
And this is what it did to his feet.

And he hadn’t even finished his swim when he posted this picture. Here’s what he said about it on Instagram.
Sorry in advance 😐 The harsh reality of spending hours, days & months at sea swimming #greatbritishswim 😊 Excited to get back on land (once we finish this cheeky swim in 600 miles) 😊 where I’m going to be working (and documenting) my foot rehab with the heroes at @vivobarefoot as I basically learn to walk (and run) again after the tiny ligaments, tendons and muscles in my feet and legs have atrophied (shrunk) from over 100 days at sea (a similar physiological phenomena that happens to astronauts from months in zero gravity) Maybe a #greatbritishswimrun 😊But first, let’s finish this cheeky paddle around the country 😊
Ay carumba. Someone buy that man a drink. And a foot massage (but only if it’s going to help).
You can read a whole lot more about his swim here.
