This ‘heartwarming’ story of a homeless man being given a new tent is making people very angry
ITV had a story over the weekend about a homeless man in Cardiff who was given a new tent by NHS staff after his old one was set on fire.
People from the ambulance service very kindly arranged a whip round to buy him a new one.
This is the heartwarming moment a homeless man received a new tent and sleeping bags from NHS staff. David's tent had been set alight while he slept earlier this week in Cardiff. https://t.co/0Nu1TPJxTY pic.twitter.com/hppi65zBbf

But some people – quite a lot of people, in fact – were wondering whether ITV News in Wales weren’t missing the bigger picture here.

Heartwarming? I bet he’d prefer a bricks and mortar house?! 😢

Fuck me. This is the heartwarming moment a man is given a flimsy plastic tent by charitable members of the public then sent back to live on the streets where he was SET ON FIRE earlier in the week rather than some sort of government accommodation. Fuck me. https://t.co/tsIc9U7KtT

“Right the government are gonna do fuck all, so we got you a tent”
“It’s freezing”
“And you can go back on the streets”
“Where somebody tried to set me on fire on Friday”
“This is heartwarming we should film this”— James Felton (@JimMFelton) December 16, 2018
(No disrespect to the people who bought the tent obviously, just shocked there’s no system that could accommodate a man whose tent was set on fire earlier in the same week)

How on earth @itvnews can sign off this tweet as heartwarming?!!! Do your job as journalists and question why in this country we are allowing this. His tent was set alight!!! Utterly shameful, my heart is not warmed by knowing he is back on the street.

I feel ashamed of this country more than I feel any sense of pride nowadays.. I was walking the dog this morning and saw someone camping in a bush.. went and got a coffee and burger from the cafe for him.. but it was a woman.. sleeping in a fucking bush in slough in 2018😠
