How this ‘book murderer’ makes long novels more portable united the internet in horror
People tend to prefer paperbacks to hardbacks because not only are they cheaper, they’re easier to carry when you are out and about.
Really, really thick paperbacks can still be a bit of a pain to lug around but we’d never, ever thought about doing this.
And it turns out no-one else had either. Well, apart from this person.
Yesterday my colleague called me a 'book murderer' because I cut long books in half to make them more portable. Does anyone else do this? Is it just me? pic.twitter.com/VQUUdJMpwT

And basically the entire internet screamed back: ‘It’s just you!’

Did it once many years ago when travelling with partner and only had one book between us. Still suffering from PTSD.

I dog-ear pages, underline bits, write notes, drop sauce on them and take them in the bath. But you, madam, need to get in the bin

Have you considered cutting horizontally so you only read one half of each page? Fill in the rest with your imagination. Give the other half to your other half and afterwards discuss the book to see how your impressions were the same or different.

But just in case you’re thinking it can’t surely get any worse, that’s not quite true.
Lord Chesterfield, in the 18th century, used to read Latin poetry on the toilet then rip out the finished page to use as bog roll

To be fair, not everyone thought it was a bad idea.

If you want someone to gift you an ebook reader, there are better ways to do it. https://t.co/UPwT9bTeoi
