“I was sent a lovely plant”
This must be the most civilised exchange anybody’s ever had with a complaints department.
We were beginning to think it was the compliments helpline until the end.
Several Reddit users left comments like this.
You are the nicest complainer ever

The original poster, u/-pleasemakeitstop-, explained why they were so placid.
Haha thank you! I have worked in customer service before, there is no need to come in hot and bothered to someone there to help over the companies mistake. Especially one as hilarious as opening up a giant box to find a plastic plant instead of a filing cabinet 😂
They added a couple of updates.
Great news though, Target is letting me keep the plant and a new filing cabinet is on its way!
This was how they explained the problem to Target.
And this is the plastic plant in question.
The mix-up got Redditors thinking about their own similar experiences – from both sides of the conversation.
I once ordered a work shirt from Sears in medium, they sent me an XXL and in the wrong color. I let CS know, they apologized and said they’d send me the proper shirt and said I could donate or toss the one I was given. The second shirt arrived, this time in the right color, but also in XXL.
I let them know again, and the third shipment I got a really heavy and large box, I was very confused when I opened it up to Sears sending me some heavy duty wire cutters, and I kind of just gave up.

Ikea loves giving my girlfriend free stuff.
Recently she ordered 2 or 3 small glass containers for storing dry goods in the kitchen. Total was like $13. Well, 6 large boxes arrived. A vase, a massive light fixture, a children’s chair, like 30 wooden clotheshangers, and a sonos speaker.
Customer service said just keep it. She tried telling them she had no use for that stuff and would rather they take it back… They just said donate it. So we just gave it all to people we know (through no small effort).

My mother in law sent my wife her birthday present from Amazon one year. The tracking number on it tracked the package and two packages arrived that day, one with the present and another in a 12x12x24 inch box that only contained a small can of diced pears. Both shipped from the same origin. Amazon told us they have no records of the pears, but we were free to keep them.

This must be in the running for the Best Anecdote Award.
Stupid customer story time?
So at one point I worked for an inbound call center doing phone activations for another rich space guy. Think late 2000s, when cell phones were becoming pretty common, smart phones weren’t too common yet, and pre-paid cellular was taking off like crazy. We had a customer that had just picked up a phone and called in to activate it. So to get into the programming menu for these phones, you would dial #847446. I had a customer that wasn’t sure what the # key was (We referred to it as the pound key, which was company policy and we were instructed not to call it anything else).
Me: The pound key is directly below the 9.
C: Under the 9? How am I supposed to press that?
M: Just like any other key, sir.
C: Hold on a second…(Customer muttering to themselves)…OK, I got the 9 key off, but when I press the button it still shows 9 on the screen.
M: …I’m sorry, you got the 9 key off?
C: Yeah, I pried it out with my pocket knife. It’s still showing a 9 though.
M: ….Sir, do you see the symbol below where the 9 was, next to the 0 key?
C: The number sign? Yeah, what about it?
M: Please put the 9 key back in place, and then press that symbol, followed by the numbers….
So when they include things in the instructions like opening the box….it’s for these people….

“Perhaps it was a Venus File trap.”
