Susanna Reid’s takedown of this cabinet minister over ‘hire and fire’ is worth every second
There was a fabulous moment on ITV’s Good Morning Britain today when presenter Susanna Reid was asking small business minister Paul Scully about ‘fire and rehire’ after P&O sacked 800 staff to replace them with agency workers.
Scully told Reid there had been no vote on a parliamentary bill that would have banned the hugely controversial practice, and this is what happened next.
After small business minister Paul Scully said there was no vote on the bill that would ban fire and rehire, @susannareid100 reads out an article that claims Mr Scully spoke for so long that the legislation ran out of time to be considered further. pic.twitter.com/5BIiY6iqpi

Magnificently done.
Here’s what Labour MP Jess Phillips had to say about Scully’s response.
Utter rubbish. He makes out that it doesn’t matter that he talked a lot, he will have been literally ordered to do it to kill the bill it wasn’t an accident. Also new guidance he mentions puts onus on sacked worker to undertake years of expensive work against rich companies https://t.co/LIhkrqqiho

And just a few of the things people were saying about it.
Susanna Reid: did you vote to ban fire and rehire?
Paul Scully: there wasn't a vote and this wasn't a case of fire and rehire
Susanna provides receipts that ministers scuppered the bill & that the man who ensured he spoke for so long the bill ran out of time was.. Paul Scully

Susanna Reid just asked Paul Scully why he spoke for 40 mins in the house effectively stopping a vote to ban ‘Fire & Rehire, apparently he did it because he is on the side of employees not bad employers…….yeah right.

Paul Scully skewered by Susannah Reid. Brilliant journalism. His discomfort at being outed for his lies was palpable. Love his awkward look to his left. I thought he was going to do a runner.

Another fine example of @susannareid100 holding power to account
Minister Paul Scully DID talk out the law that would have prevented Fire & Rehire
British Jobs are less safe as a result

Last word to @susannareid100.
Business Minister Paul Scully told me there had been no vote on the Fire/Rehire bill. It’s reported it ran out of time because one Minister spoke for so long.
That Minister was … Paul Scully. https://t.co/ni5iqitasa
