Susanna Reid’s brutal skewering of the Education Secretary on school funding is the way to do it
If you manage to fight your way past news of Will Smith and Chris Rock, you might have spotted that the government has published a white paper proposing a shake-up of the education system, including an increase to the minimum compulsory hours and a deeper focus on Maths and English.
Presumably, if they're extending the school day, they're increasing spending on schools and teachers. Have I got that right?

Very important to drive up maths targets in schools, you wouldn't want to end up with a government that thinks 40 new hospitals is the same as 0 new hospitals. https://t.co/aD1mPlnpg0

Is this really it?
The Education Sec’s big idea is that schools should help pupils who fall behind.
Of course they should.
That’s what teachers already do.
After twelve years in government, it couldn't be clearer the Tories have run out of ideas.https://t.co/HoW7QAsvj7

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi has been doing the rounds of the newsrooms to promote the changes, but he hasn’t been having an easy time of it.
@KayBurley “(Education) funding will return us to 2010 levels by 2024/25. Why do you think that’s a success?”

When he spoke to Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid, she also wasn’t about to let him get away with anything. Here’s how that went.
Susanna Reid – Why did the government deprive state school pupils of a quality education… why did state school pupils have to suffer… your own Govt has catastrophically let down state schools since your government has been in power.#GMB pic.twitter.com/wT2vHebEpe

Why did you deprive state school pupils of a quality education by taking money away from them to fix what happened in the banking crisis?
The internet gave it the thumbs up.
He just fills the air with noise and numbers, signifying nothing. https://t.co/x3HZNRdiYO

Such ignorance to the struggles of all those people working in and attending state schools.
Academies are not a solution!
The solution is to stop cutting support for state education, stop redistributing money from poor to rich areas, and to properly invest in state schools. https://t.co/iQNY5EanPV

He's like one of those meat sellers in a market:" I'll not only give you a chicken, I'll throw in two pork chops, a lb of sausages & some scrag end of lamb – all for a Fiver! This is no way for an Education Minister to speak – he is not giving a sales pitch!

Susanna Reid asking why state school children have been deprived of a quality education since 2010, why they had funding cut, & Nadim Zahawi has nothing #GMB

Thank God she questioned him not Madeley. It would have been "what's your favourite colour?" And "are your horses warm now?"

They're all so unused to anything but the most gentle "what's your favourite colour?" kind of soft-soaping – always a delight to see a Tory squirm under the slightest scrutiny.

State school kids will never need to do big sums like £122m minus £46m, so it's money well saved. Right @Conservatives ? pic.twitter.com/ApJ8GgjCcP
