Putin’s spokesman being called out for his lies on Sky News is a masterclass in this sort of thing

This Sky News clip in which Russia’s lies about the deaths of civilians in Ukraine are forensically called out by presenter Mark Austin has just gone viral on Reddit because it’s so well done.

The Sky news man confronts Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov over the horrendous moment a Russian tank fired on 52-year-old Iryna Filkina cycling home in Bucha.

It’s a difficult watch, featuring scenes of violence and blurred but distressing images, but it’s also a fascinating insight into the way the resources available today can be used to dismantle state propaganda.

Well done Sky News and Mark Austin. And here are just a few of the things people were saying about it.

‘This type of investigative reporting is super important right now & the public needs to see a lot more of it.’

“Can you be more specific?” Dafuq, I think that was pretty damn specific.’
PDCH

‘Their lies are getting more and more desperate as the evidence of their war crimes are mounting. I’m sure they’ll still be able to pull the wool over the eyes of the Russian population, but the rest of the world sees this.’
RaelImperial31

‘Russians clearly don’t know how things work in 2022, they are still stuck in 1968.’
prestigebandicoot

‘They are never going to admit it. They will deny this forever no matter the evidence presented.’
De_Impaler

‘What a fucking idiot excuse. “How do you know it’s Russian?!”. Well what is it supposed to be? French? Argentinian? Who do you think has invaded and taking over that part of Ukraine? The New Zealanders?’
calstanfordboy

‘I liked the “how could you identify the Russian tank” bit. Which is basically him saying, you’re obviously right, but how can you prove you’re right?’
