A ‘misinformation warrior’ peeled back the layers of this Mail on Sunday splash and it’s a fascinating, infuriating read

The DM drop in that little paragraph highlighting that this is ONLY to do with OT treatment- only to do with the educational support services.
Yet they want to scare people into thinking private school kids will be DENIED NHS care
That’s a horrendous, scaremongering claim

They even throw in a story about a young cancer patient to try and widen the coverage.
But that was about the cost of tutoring on the ward.
The council provide it for state schools.
And for whatever reason the private school weren’t offering it for their own students.

So as ever – when you see a headline that makes you furious:
stop and take a breath
does it really sound plausible?
could there be more context?
do the people sharing the story have an agenda?
have a little dig around!Because there is ALWAYS more to it!

Thanks @sparky300 for the suggestion!
It did indeed get my creative juices flowing!

And also …
And if you thought the DM was bad, here is @theLDNstandard using an A&E sign to accompany the already hugely misleading story!
Absolutely disgusting clickbait. pic.twitter.com/Kh8bEXnFVE

And this.
A clarification.
I foolishly used the DM’s words! ♀️ https://t.co/m30bfxb2Ez

And here are just a few of the many comments it prompted.
Excellent thread highlighting how the Daily Mail distort reality to create pro-Tory rage-bait https://t.co/KKHgUGpfnA

I’ve reached the stage now where when I see these rage bait pieces zipping round, I just wait for Emma to calmly correct it. The trouble is, the enraged don’t see Emma’s response and the fury lives on. https://t.co/gvzhhLR5o7

Excellent thread showing what a truly appalling ‘newspaper’ the Daily Mail is. Certain educational services are not available to independent schools because of the Children and Families Act 2014 introduced, you’ve guessed it, by the Conservative government. https://t.co/qH4g8K9i1F

A that’s well worth reading. Don’t just accept and amplify a headline that may echo your own views. Challenge your thinking and dig a little deeper for the real story https://t.co/rsigsUgekF

Excellent from Emma responding to the rage-farming of Tory MP’s whose party were actually responsible for Children & Families Act 2014 meaning services such as speech, occupational therapy etc provided by LAs to state schools aren’t available to non special independent schools. https://t.co/0otetzLKxE

Not everyone was sympathetic …
Well Labour went out of their way to intentionally shaft parents (and kids) who use private schools so this is entirely understandable backlash to a toxic and spiteful policy. It will continue to backfire on them badly.
— Nick Almond (@DrNickA) June 8, 2025
And yet, this, very much this.
You think Labour deserve backlash for a TORY “toxic and spiteful” policy that was enacted in 2014??
Or is it only toxic and spiteful because you think it’s a Labour policy?
