‘Older people on Reddit: What is 100% pure bullshit?’ – 17 things online elders are sick of

‘That you are in your prime in your 20s and hitting 30 is some terrible turning point. Successful people at that age are outliers. Life is long and worthwhile success takes most people many decades. Don’t stress if you are not there yet. Just. Keep. Going.’

‘You can’t be anything you want. You have limits. It’s really hard to figure that out, but you’ll likely be okay if you do.’

‘Wedding drama. It doesn’t matter. A wedding should be about celebrating 2 people getting married and 2 families coming together. People have totally forgotten the 2 families part and instead act like they get to be king and queen for a day. When you relax and don’t take it so seriously you have a better time.’

‘Companies phasing out physical media just to sell us stuff we don’t actually own that can be taken away/edited/censored.

You can have my DVDs, bluerays, vinyl records, and CDs when you pry them from my cold dead fingers.’

‘Any communication style that doesn’t involve being direct but gracious.

I remember on my (first) wedding day, having someone tell me never to tell your husband what you think but to let him think it’s his idea. (That didn’t work out for a variety of reasons but that certainly didn’t help.) Simultaneously, I remember receiving advice about how to get what you want at work that involved asking for more than you need and how to bargain your way into things.

These are all terrible ideas. You don’t need to manipulate or trick people or tiptoe around expressing what you think. Just be honest and communicate your needs and ideas clearly while also being respectful of the feelings of those around you. Be confident in what you believe, but also leave room for the possibility that there might be other perspectives you hadn’t considered and be open to change when you learn new things. If you do this, you will be just fine.’

‘The fact that we don’t own anything anymore- it’s all a subscription.

Former homeowner- I’m stuck renting. We rent our music from Spotify monthly. We rent our tv from Netflix monthly. Microsoft won’t sell you Office anymore. Even my god damn printer requires a monthly subscription- and I haven’t even used it this year.

The quality of everything made is reduced to save money and increase margins, so we don’t even get appliances and clothing and cars that last anymore. It’s all a money making scam.’

‘Dividing people into generational tags and pretending there is a huge difference between the groups.

There are more commonalities than differences, and those differences are usually temporary.

It’s just a way to set people against each other and distract from economic differences’

‘I know this will likely get a lot of downvotes, but, crypto currencies.

Yes, you can make money with them, however I’m 90% convinced they are being buoyed by organized crime.’
