‘My Nan used to do us chicken leg with the crispy skin on and crinkle cut chips with peas. It was served with pre-2000 levels of salt and was the tastiest thing ever. I only ever had crinkle cut chips at Nan’s house. I’m vegetarian now so I’ll never have that sort of meal again but it was good stuff.’

‘Cottage Pie. Coming home from school, opening the door, and inhaling the scent of Cottage Pie wafting through the house made any day better. Nothing ever tasted of love as much as Mum’s Cottage Pie.’

‘Beans on toast was tea at my nan’s on a Thursday when I went there straight from school. Followed by cakes from the cake shop up the road. There was a meringue one dipped in chocolate, loved those. Listening to the Home Service/Radio 4 (no TV) sitting in front of the two bar electric fire. I miss her so much and it’s 50 years since she’s gone.’

‘Mince and tatties. My friend’s mum made the best mince and tatties. She was amused at how much I loved hers. My mum can’t cook so her food was gourmet to me. I’ve never been able to make them as well as she did.’
