‘What foods do you find difficult to eat ‘with dignity’?’ – 21 meals that turn us all back into toddlers

‘A vanilla slice (or custard slice, if that’s what you call them). Always a bit too tall for getting in there for a bite and all the custard squeezes out if you manage it. So you approach the custard from the sides and it doesn’t resolve the problem, you’re just left with pastry and no custard.

Or you separate the two sheets of pastry and hope you can spread the custard across them both… You can’t hold or even touch them without getting your hands (and probably face) covered in icing and custard. But they are bloody delicious!’

‘Mussels. I love them served in the shell in a tomato based broth. But they’re impossible to eat with any decorum.’

‘I treated my pal to a raspberry jam filled doughnut last weekend… He took a bite and the jam went everywhere but into his mouth! We were walking through Liverpool St in London at the time… Perfect moment for a complete loss of dignity!

I had the cinnamon sugar ring one and saved it to have with coffee… And got sugar all down myself. I shouldn’t be allowed out.’

‘Shrimp/prawns that are served in some thick sauce with the shells still on. You can’t use your fingers because of the thick sauce, and the shrimps aren’t often high-quality enough to do it with utensils.’

‘I struggle with soup tbh. Beard/moustache gets in the way to the point that I’d simply rather not debase myself by eating it with company.’
