US donald trump King Charles III
King Charles turned his speech into a roast with a history joke about Donald Trump’s remodelling of the East Wing – 15 virtual rounds of applause
It seems King Charles may have (probably temporarily) restored cordiality between the UK and Donald Trump.
His address to Congress has been very well received, and included many important talking points, such as the Ukraine War, the environment, and the fact that Nato came to the aid of the US after 911 – something Trump seems to have conveniently forgotten.
King Charles’s speech to Congress is one for the record books
From the special relationship to NATO mobilising after 9/11, plus multiculturalism and climate change
It is literally the antithesis of what Donald Trump usually says
And Congress lapped it up -soft power in action pic.twitter.com/Sji0fB879R

He even chucked in a few jokes.

At the state banquet after his historic appearance in Congress, the King busted out a few more jokes, including some light trolling of the US. He referenced Trump’s claim to have saved the British from being overtaken by Germany…
A lot of jokes from King Charles tonight.
“You recently commented, Mr. President, that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Dare I say that if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French” pic.twitter.com/9EyxNMLxCR

The King made it clear that there are no grudges being held over the Boston Tea Party.
King Charles: Thank you, Mr. President and Mrs. Trump for your splendid dinner this evening, which, may I say, is a very considerable improvement on the Boston Tea Party. pic.twitter.com/8NbXHFc9Lu

He also gave a nod to Trump’s precious ballroom project, which has just gone from being a gift to the country paid for by private donors, to a $400 million burden on the US taxpayer. But it was a previous British interaction with the White House that formed the basis of King Charles’ joke.
🚨HOLY SHIT. King Charles just MOCKED Trump’s Ballroom:
"On this occasion I cannot help noticing the readjustments to the East Wing…
…We made our own small attempt at real estate redevelopment of the White House in 1814 (when the British set fire to the White House). pic.twitter.com/m8fEHF4QVg

It was an eye-opener for those not familiar with the King’s public speaking game.

Brutal.
King Charles didn’t raise his voice.
He just opened British history, turned one page, and buried Trump under it.That wasn’t a joke.
That was a royal autopsy. https://t.co/HDE2bP58bV— AnatolijUkraine (@AnatoliUkraine) April 29, 2026

The thing is, King Charles is roasting him (and us) so delicately that it flies right over MAGA and Trumps heads…🤣

Translation: he clocked Trump’s tacky renovation and reminded the world the British already tried redeveloping the White House once in 1814, with fire.
Even the King can’t resist trolling this clown. 😏

🤣 Even King Charles knows how to deliver a classy roast—history lesson, diplomacy, and humor all in one. That 1814 White House joke landed perfectly.

King Charles just reminded Trump that Britain burned the White House down and called it "real estate redevelopment."
The most polite disrespect ever delivered at a state dinner with a straight face and a wine glass 💀
