‘What’s something that people do to try to be nice that infuriates you ?’ – 19 thoughtful gestures that can really backfire

Ok this is probably going to make me sound like a right arsehole, but I HATE it when people say “bless you” after I sneeze. I don’t know why. It makes me irrationally angry

When I’m at the end of one of my very busy pub manager shifts, and a customer generously offers to spend more money if the pub stays open later than closing time. Thanks mate, myself and the staff were dreading not having an extra fiver in the till on top of the thousands we already made, working for free is also one of our favourite things to do, and getting home to our loved ones on time is a nightmare. Truly a good samaritan.

I’ve just come back from a trip away and my girlfriend’s Mum has been round while I was gone washing our clothes, rearranging our stuff and doing things like hanging new mirrors, introducing new things to the house etc. I wanted to put my dirty clothes from the trip on a wash when I got in and she’s either moved our clothes washing stuff to somewhere idiotic or used it all up while I’ve been gone. Get to absolute fuck.

I hate it when someone beeps at me to get my attention just to wave as they drive past. It’s pointless. It makes me jump. I don’t have time to wave back before they’re gone. We can’t stop and chat. I would otherwise have no idea they were there anyway. I just don’t get it.

Saying “cheer up, it might not happen” when they see someone looking sad. Particularly when you are a stranger.

When a guest, un-asked and not having suggested it, decides to bring a dish round when they come for dinner.

When nice is actually nosey.

Questioning me about where I’m from and where is my family. I don’t find that bonding, but intrusive.
