Celebrity jeff bezos william shatner
This awkward 2021 clip of Jeff Bezos welcoming an emotional William Shatner back to Earth is going viral again
Amazon boss Jeff Bezos has been in the news again after the spectacular explosion of one of his rockets on the Cape Canaveral launchpad. Never mind. We’re sure he can just buy himself a new one.
Luckily, his October 2021 Blue Origin rocket launch was more successful. On board was none other than the Star Trek legend William Shatner, who became the oldest person to reach space at the time, aged 90.
It was a deeply moving and profound experience for the actor, and the following clip, shared by Todd Spence on Twitter, shows the moment when Shatner is welcomed back to Earth by Bezos.
It’s a masterclass in cringe.
That time William Shatner was emotional explaining how it felt to take his first flight into outer space and Jeff Bezos cut him off to spray champagne. Like a scene straight out of The Office pic.twitter.com/wX1uIXnfeX

1.
Shatner is out here having what looks like a genuine existential moment after seeing Earth from space, and Bezos just starts spraying champagne like he just won the Super Bowl lol
I’d vote for Captain Kirk 😉

Being in space was a profound, almost religious experience for Shatner. He looked down on this pale blue dot and felt closer to everyone living on it, past present and future.
It was the most amazing experience he'd ever had.
Then he came back, and remembered why he hated people.— Darrel Murphy (@MarhinDeMosr) May 29, 2026

Oh man forgot about this total face palm moment. You are standing there w/ freaking Capt Kirk, and you're too self-absorbed to care. What a tool.

5.
oh god I remember this
to Bezos, William Shatner was just an action figure in his toy spaceship

Truly one of my favorite clips ever.
A human having a real reaction to the immense accomplishment and perspective of outer space.
And the billionaire funding it is fundamentally incapable of understanding. https://t.co/bxW3mDPerm
