Someone asked about worst thing people had done at a work drinks – 21 proper jaw-droppers

‘My first work party. I was 16 in the motor trade working for a fairly prestigious car dealership and it was in a posh restaurant. There was a open bar and wine on the table. A bunch of the guys kept feeding me drinks and wine. Towards the end I was pretty steaming but fairly okay and harmless.

‘And then some of the guys thought it would be thought it would be funny to bet I couldn’t neck a pint of wine (mixed in with some other shite). The bet got to about £50. 16-year-old me thought I could neck it. Cue five minutes time me being sick over the floor of the restaurant and painting the toilet area.

‘The restaurant found I was underage and banned us and charged a significant clean up fee. The guys who bet and egged me on got in some serious trouble with HR. I got a firm telling off but let off really.

‘Worst hangover ever.’

‘Passed out in a taxi and had to be carried up my own stairs by one of our team’s external stakeholders who I had a major crush on.

‘My room was a horrendous state after being abroad two weekends straight. Nearly 10 years on and married and happy so no ‘dating’, I still have the fear and keep my house and bedroom spotless…’

‘My first time at work drinks in London I was in a period of my life where I was trying intermittent fasting. I didn’t have time to grab food on the way to the pub, and long story short, threw up into my hands in the bathroom because all the stalls were full up.

‘One of the guys next to me took it all in and just told me “next time just use the urinal, mate”. Nobody in the toilets was phased by my improvised vomiting, which I found astounding. I cleaned up, took off my shirt, came back to the table with red eyes and only my undershirt on and informed everyone I had to head home. I think it must’ve been about 7pm.’

‘My first night out in a government job, I got in to an argument about whether I could smoke in a shop front and spent the night in the cells after swinging for the officer that told me I couldn’t.’

‘Two years ago I got so drunk with a colleague off three bottles of wine between two of us that neither of us were in a fit state to navigate our way home.

‘They put a coach on to take people back, and I apparently opened the bottle of champagne that I’d won in the raffle and was passing it around the coach like I’m some champagne Jesus, quenching the thirst of everybody. We got off the coach at the office, no taxis available, Uber was £30 for a less than 10 minutes, two drop off journey so we said fuck it, let’s walk.

‘We managed to take an hour to get 15 minutes down the road, got picked up by colleague’s boyfriend who she doesn’t remember calling and I don’t remember getting in his car.

‘I woke up on my sofa at 5.30am, threw up on the rug in the living room, cleaned up the sick, spent an hour panicking that I’d lost my phone before I found it down the side of the sofa, then went to work with one of the worst hangovers I’ve ever had and struggled through the entire day.’

‘Did the Mrs Merton “So what first attracted you to…” bit at the MD’s surprisingly attractive wife. No repercussions but it was the last year partners were invited.’

‘I puked up all over my room in the middle of the night after work drinks and sent a picture of it to my manager as a justification of why I shouldn’t be in the next day. He had been at the work drinks and wasn’t drinking.’

‘Not me, but a boy who’d just joined the company threw up on the CEO’s shoes. Didn’t quit the next morning, either!’
