Even the Rubbish Party has won more seats than UKIP
In a sign of how well UKIP is doing in these local elections, it has now won one fewer seat than the Rubbish Party.
Congratulations to Sally Cogley, the Rubbish Party councillor who stood on the single issue of ensuring that rubbish bins are collected properly, a cause surely close to all our hearts.
She got 784 votes, enough to give her one of three council seats in the Irvine Valley ward of East Ayrshire in Scotland, nine more than the Scottish Labour Party’s George Mair.
It’s one more seat than UKIP has managed across the whole of the country which had so far lost 45 seats at the time of going to press (11.35am) and won none.
The Rubbish Party said it would “get rid of all types of rubbish from our community; wasted resources, litter, dog fouling, fly tipping and pollution”.
Don’t know where it stands on Brexit, though. Just so long as it doesn’t make a mess, presumably.
@therubbishparty Shame I missed you Sally. You’re just what the valley needs! Great to see! pic.twitter.com/aDYygwwOBi

Not everyone’s a fan though.
Just got a first class letter from @therubbishparty. At least this party is not hiding the truth. The rubbish is exactly where this is going pic.twitter.com/7NdNpBlexb

Get back to your waste disposal units and prepare to sort out your recycling.
