‘Chewbacca Cat’ electrifies internet
Technology News: “I see it as the perfect fusion of the internet’s north and south poles,” says web analyst Susan Frost. “To the north, we have cats. To the south, Star Wars.”
Registering over 5 billion hits within its first hour, the YouTube video of an ugly cat who bears a striking resemblance to Chewbacca has smashed all previous viral records.
“We estimate that by the end of today,” Frost continues, “more people will have seen Chewcatta than have ever actually been alive.”
The owner of ‘Chewcatta’ – real name Huston Chapley Snr – is Mr Tim Gretchen from Ocean Beach, Virginia, who says he is simply ‘overwhelmed’.
“We all knew Huston Chapley Snr was a strange looking little fella – that’s why my daughter chose him right out of the bag just before I tied it up and threw the rest of them in the creek.”
“She took a video of him just fooling around, put it up there on YouTube and boom – now we’ve got the TV people on the phone, the newspaper people on the phone – I sincerely believe Huston Chapley Snr is going to change our lives.”
“This whole thing has been a lesson in perseverance.”
“Huston’s video is about the thirtieth video that our daughter Holly has put up there on YouTube. And let me tell you, the ones of her trying to bake a cake without using her hands or setting fire to a sleeping vagrant didn’t do anywhere near so well.”
