Apple’s new iPhone 7 slogan translates into “This is penis” in Hong Kong

Apple clearly failed to consider the perils of being a multinational company after Hong Kongers pointed out that the new slogan “This is 7” translates into “This is penis”, reports qz.

There are variations of the slogan for China, Taiwan and Hong Kong – which when translated back into English say “7, is here”, “Exactly is 7” and “This, is exactly iPhone 7.”

Apparently the problem is that “7” in Cantonese is also slang for “penis” and often used to gently mock someone – or taken literally means “This is penis” or “Penis, is here”. Apple fans are clearly enjoying the gaffe – “Without a 3.5mm earbud jack, this is exactly penis,” said one Hong Konger on a Facebook post that’s had nearly 7k shares.

Clearly it makes for a much better slogan than what Apple originally intended…
