Jennifer Lawrence had the perfect comeback for people who said this photo was sexist
Actor Jennifer Lawrence has spoken out to set the record straight after this picture caused a bit of a stir on social media.

The idea being that Jennifer Lawrence had to wear a skimpy dress but all the blokes could wear what they wanted and wrap up against the cold.
Here are the sort of things that people were saying.
1.
This is such a quietly depressing (and revealing) image. Not least because I’ve been outside today and it’s bloody FREEZING. pic.twitter.com/BRnmgKJ5wY

2.
True equality means either Jennifer Lawrence getting a coat, or Jeremy Irons having to pose for a photocall in assless chaps.

3.
My guess would be that she’s doing other stuff on the junket too (indoors) or having publicity pictures taken & they don’t want to do hair and make-up twice. Nonetheless, I can’t appreciate her insane gorgeousness when I so powerfully want to give her a foil blanket.

4.
Everyone in that picture looks mortified by the fact of that picture. Who suggests this?

5.
The only rational reason for this picture is that her clothes spontaneously combusted and Liz Hurley happened to be passing on her way to a charity shop.

6.
Why are the men dressed like they’re off to Twickenham but the woman isn’t allowed a coat? Or trousers. Or a jumper.

7.
Yes. As you say, depressing.

Except, well, Jennifer Lawrence intervened in the debate to say that people should extend their sympathies, outrage (or depression) in a different direction.

Here’s what she had to say just in case that’s a little tricky to read.
‘Wow. I don’t really know where to get started on this ‘Jennifer Lawrence wearing a revealing dress in the cold’ controversy.
This is not only utterly ridiculous, I am extremely offended. That Versace dress was fabulous, you think I’m going to cover that gorgeous dress up with a coat and scarf?
I was outside for 5 minutes. I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice.
This is sexist, this is ridiculous, this is not feminism. Over-reacting about everything someone says or does, creating controversy over silly innocuous things such as what I choose to wear or not wear, is not moving us forward.
It’s creating silly distractions from real issues. Get a grip people. Everything you see me wear is my choice. And if I want to be cold THAT’S MY CHOICE TOO!’
But some people said the point stood. Well, if not quite the original point, then something like it.
To all those saying JL ‘chose’ to wear that dress: fine but that choice has a context. She could have made a different decision but we can agree on one thing: it’s not a decision to which the blokes had to give the slightest thought. https://t.co/eKyGradk0V

Maybe the clue was in how she arrived.
🙌🏼 preach. She arrived in a coat and sunglasses, nobody is asking where those went. Maybe, just maybe a woman made a decision on her own?! pic.twitter.com/HJIEDa4X03
