This author had the perfect putdown for people who said Rahul did not deserve to win Bake Off

Congratulations to Rahul Mandal who won the final of the Great British Bake Off last night.

Rahul, a Rotherham-based Indian research scientist who only started baking two years ago, said it was the ‘coolest thing that I have done in my life’.

But not everyone was happy with the result after he beat fellow finalists Ruby Bhogal and Kim-Joy Hewlett.

Liverpool author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, best known for his award-winning books like Millions and helping to create the stunning opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London, had this to say to people who said Rahul was not a worthy winner.

It’s clearly a bugbear for the great man and there was no end of people who were tweeting exactly that last night.

We’ll save their blushes though and share a few responses instead.
