One woman’s sneaky hack for fobbing off persistent men with a fake number might be a lifesaver
In the #MeToo era, more people are coming to realise that just about every woman has experienced male harassment, generally on many occasions. In less technologically advanced times, a woman might have got away with giving a fake number to a man who wouldn’t take no for an answer, but as everyone carries a mobile phone, these men now ring the number instantly, “to make sure it’s saved properly.”
One woman, over on Tumblr, has shared her ingenious hack for getting around that, and it could be a life saver, perhaps literally.
Cunning or what? Almost 90,000 people have liked, shared or commented on the post.
One responder shared her way around the problem,
“I always say ‘Shouldn’t you give me your number first, asking for mine isn’t really gentleman-like.”
Although, that seems unlikely to put him off for long.
Another bemoaned the reason behind the hack.
“The effort we go to all because men can’t take rejection.”
Tumblr user every-username-is-taken-damnit made a similar stark point:
“It’s depressing the lengths we must go to not to be murdered by men.”
Isn’t it about time hacks like this weren’t necessary?
