There’s so much going on in this Mike Read dinner poster people didn’t know where to start
Former Radio 1 DJ Mike Read obviously keeps himself busy and it’s fair to say he’s no longer just known for getting the hump when Frankie said Relax.
There was that Calypso song he recorded for UKIP, for instance, and that Q&A he hosted with Chevy Chase, that sort of thing.
We only mention this because over on Twitter Rhodri Marsden highlighted this poster for a dinner event with Read and, well, over to @rhodri.
‘This poster was brought to my attention by @stuarthoughton and I can’t stop looking at it,’ he said.
‘There’s a lot to process. I’m still working through many of the issues it raises.’
And here it is, along with just some of the comments it generated.
The mints – a deal breaker

Why is there an O in the acronym for Shake-a-Leg Community Theatre?

I’d need to know more about the mints

My favourite bit is that someone didn’t set it to print on one side. And the papers so thin you can see the same poster on the other side. And they still laminated it.

I'm taking a screenshot in case they try to fob me off with coffee 'or' mints.

I like to think that Bob checks his btinternet email by switching on the beige PC in his "nook", powering up the LCD monitor, & after a 10 minute boot sequence, gingerly nudges the mouse (ball, not optical) to his Windows Mail client.
And that this was saved on a 3.5" floppy.

Even this chap sat up and took notice.
It’s a good value considering you get mints.

Rhodri was so intrigued he was moved to do this.
Having looked to see what “Knights Of Malta” actually means, I see that it’s an honour Mike Read shares with Benito Mussolini, Jimmy Savile and Bill Cash, amongst others. https://t.co/KSQC08ARZh

This seems an appropriate note on which to leave it.
