Politics epstein files Peter Mandelson

Peter Mandelson’s arrest caused a satisfying outbreak of schadenfreude on social media – 21 unapologetically savage responses

Peter Mandelson’s relationship with the convicted paedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein continues to be his undoing.

On Monday, just four days after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was taken into custody, the former Ambassador to the US, who was sacked from that role over the link, was also arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.

It’s believed to be in relation to emails between himself and Epstein which appear to suggest he shared market-sensitive classified information with the late financier and his network. Mandelson has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t believe he has committed any crimes.

There had been widespread calls to investigate the peer, who has stepped down from his House of Lords duties, after the last dump of Epstein files revealed his relationship with Epstein had been far closer and for far longer than Mandelson had claimed.

About time. Absolutely right that Mandelson is arrested for questioning. We owe so much to the bravery of the women who fought to get the Epstein files released.

We must have full accountability now from Mandelson and Mountbatten-Windsor.

Many people wondered if there might be anyone else on the misconduct investigation list. One name in particular kept cropping up.

Are the authorities looking into that time Boris Johnson ditched his security to party in Italy?

First Andy now Mandy, I'mm not sure about this, I think it sets a dangerous presedence investigating what secret activities people in power get up to that they shouldn't, I mean where will it end?

ʼmisconduct in public officeʼ is a wonderfully vague crime, anything from stealing pens to selling a nuclear bomb to zambia
