‘I tie my straw paper into a knot. Now my daughter does, too.’

‘I have to eat M&Ms in a specific colour order, from least favourite to most favourite flavour. this is because each colour tastes different to me. Whenever I say they taste different people think I mean they are intentionally flavoured differently, like fruit flavours or something.
‘They’re not, it’s the taste of the dyes that are used to colour the shells that tastes different to me. Blue tastes the most bitter (I like very bitter things like I’ll eat raw bitter melon as a snack but the blue dye bitter is its own flavour) then green, then brown.
‘Yellow tastes kind of neutral, and the red and orange ones are my favourites, they have a specific chemical sweetness that I like. I always eat them in that specific order.’

‘Any sort of food that comes with a stick (i. e. lollipop, ice cream) always leaves me munching that stick for some time after I have finished the dish itself, sometimes for hours. Material doesn’t matter, it can be plastic, wooden or any other kind, but if it’s wooden, I usually split it in a half with my teeth and keep on chewing like that.’

‘My late sister used to save the point on her piece of pie or cheesecake for last, that is, she’d start eating at the crust, and work her way down to the very last triangular morsel at the end.
‘If she offered a bite to anyone to share, they’d darn well better not eat the point. She’d have a holy fit.’

‘I eat the chocolate and candy coating off peanut m&m 1st, then the peanut.
‘I eat the ridged, thicker chocolate around the edge of a reese’s cup first, then the rest after so the peanut butter flavor is more concentrated.
‘I eat one chocolate half of a double stuffed oreo first, then lay the cookie on my tongue, white center down, to finish it. I love the white center and want to taste it more.’

‘If I eat any seafood I can not drink water with the meal. In my mind the seafood came from water and if I drink water the seafood will then swim in my belly. I can’t have that happening.’

‘I’m 40 and this is probably extremely weird for some, but I still suck my middle and ring fingers like I did as a child. (The equivalent of thumb-sucking but, just not a thumb.) It’s basically a secret.
‘My partner doesn’t know about it, my kid doesn’t know. I’ve never been able to stop. I always do it alone. I have a background in psychology and have been fascinated by adults who still do that sort of thing and all the mechanisms around it, but there’s such little research. We still don’t really know why that happens sometimes.
‘My parents put pepper juice on my fingers as a kid, taped them with masking tape, etc. I’ve had braces three times. I’ve just never been able to stop. When I was little, it was hard at sleepovers and stuff ’cause of course you don’t wanna be that kid. But yeah, it’s just a think I do sometimes if I’m comfortable and cozy and alone.
‘Anyway, it’s fine to say on an anonymous forum but it’s definitely a very weird habit that hurts no one hahaha.’

‘I twirl my hair! I have since I was very young and I’m 70 now. It’s an unconscious habit but it’s very soothing.
‘The funny thing about it is my sister, her eldest daughter, and my daughter all do it!
‘It’s really funny when someone calls attention to us doing it at the same time, sitting next to each other!! Most of the time we are swinging our crossed legs.’
