What’s a mundane thing that happened to you that you can’t forget? – 17 weird little moments that made a big impact
Life’s full of memorable milestones like getting married or starting a new job. But strange, little moments can be just as memorable.
These small experiences are much more personal, but they all help to shape us into the people we are. Cultural-Elk-8346 wanted to learn more, so they challenged r/AskUK users to share the mundane things that have happened to them that they can’t forget.
They even kicked things off with their own suggestion:
‘2 weeks ago I was at an ATM and the lady in fronts card was eaten by the machine. She tutted and huffed, called it a ‘fuckin knobhead’, then walked off.
‘As you can see its still on my mind’

‘I once farted in a supermarket and it was quite the brutal stench. I saw a couple walk by and they were checking their kids pants and throwing blame. I was watching in absolute tears and never forget that.’

‘Was in a plumbing/hardware shop. The guy behind the counter had the wikipedia page for ‘vagina’ open.
‘I think about that a lot.’

‘A few years ago I was driving. A man and his young son, maybe 4 or 5, approached a zebra crossing so I stopped to let them cross. The boy was mucking about a bit and turned to go back midway across, the dad looked dead apologetic trying to herd the child, he got the kid pointed the right way again and gave me a quick thumbs up. Then the kid stops dead to give me a massive exaggerated thumbs up.
‘Just as they got to the other side an old lady started crossing as well, I’ve been waiting maybe a minute by this point, when she got to the middle of the crossing she stopped and gave me a massive exaggerated thumbs up and cheesy grin just like the kid had done. Cracked me up.’

‘I once walked straight into a complete stranger somewhere in Central London. At the last second, we both tried to dodge each other, only to step the same way and somehow end up even closer, literally face to face.
‘For reasons I still can’t explain, I just hugged him. No words, no awkward laugh, nothing. Then we let go and carried on walking in opposite directions like we’d known each other for years.
‘Neither of us even looked back.
‘I still occasionally wonder what that person made of it.
‘(Disclaimer: I initiated the hug and the guy opposite went along with it, though he didn’t technically hug me back. If you are reading this, I am sorry…)’

‘A man in front of me had his carrier bags split, and a bottle of wine smashed on the pavement.
‘He just looked down and said in a very sad voice (in a thick Caribbean accent)
‘”oh, no.”
‘This was probably about 20 years ago, and I will remember that ‘Oh no’ for the rest of my life.’

‘I went to a sandwich shop while on holiday. The menu repeatedly referred to burgers as bargers. There were no other spelling mistakes, but burgers were called bargers at least a dozen times. That was now twenty-one years ago.’

‘Boring night at previous job brightened up slightly when I recognised a customer as a less than 3k subs weightloss YouTuber that I’d started following.
‘She bought 2 bottles of wine (had to ID her, definitely the YT girl), a huge amount of chocolate and laxatives.
‘Unsubbed but I do think of it every so often.’
