Like people making floating bergs of boats to survive and subsist by fishing. ‘Re activating’ Arctic conditions stations since zombies freeze. Moving up into mountains for similar reasons but with more options to hunt and fish (which does NOT go smoothly turns out).
Some communities were simply not hit very hard and had to keep a basic neighborhood watch. If you live in the middle of bumfuck Kansas, unless a huge roaming horde stumbles into you if you have basic city governance youre probably fine. Will have to become a socialized small community but it’s not impossible with endless fertile farmland and agriculture.’

Traditional zombies won’t climb hills. As they trudge around, gravity will naturally make them flow much like very slow water. Unless they sense something up a hill, they’ll have no reason to intentionally climb one. So long rolling hills will have almost no zombies on them.’
