Lib Dem campaign visit cut short after Tim Farron is covered in bees

The Liberal Democrats election prospects suffered another glitch yesterday, after leader Tim Farron was covered in bees while campaigning at Taunton in Somerset.

Farron was speaking about the Lib Dems plans to generate funding for new homes in the UK, when thousands of bees appeared out of nowhere and covered him from head to foot.

“I suppose it was inevitable,” said one onlooker. “Farron does looks like a man who lives in eternal fear of being smothered by bees.”

“The bees came as a bit of a relief to be honest,” said another.

“He’d been waffling on about the Housing Investment Bank for ages, and to be honest I’d rather see a man covered in bees than hear one talk about houses I’ll never be able to afford – so that respect it was really quite memorable.”

Speaking from the safety of the Lib Dem battle bus after having the bees smoked off by assistants, Farron was upbeat about the experience.

“It’s certainly the biggest turnout of bees I can remember at any campaign event. We just need to turn those bees into votes on the 8th June!”
