Comedian Ed Byrne spotted an ice-cream pricing anomaly and split the internet
Hilarious stand-up comedian, panel-show stalwart and enthusiastic hiker, Ed Byrne, noticed something weird about the price of ice-cream scoops on a menu.
I’m intrigued by the pricing policy in this place. Clearly the manager feels 3 scoops is the optimum amount. 4 scoops constitutes gluttony and should be discouraged. pic.twitter.com/uWU1wI4GHM

His tweet caught the attention of a lot of people, some who agreed with him …
Maybe that's the point that they're discouraging people from buying a 4th scoop? You know… Obesity and all that

The gap between 2 scoops and 3 is senseless, almost encouraging it but then the remonstrative 1 Euro for a fourth. ( you’ve had enough ! )

Ed, you're spot on. The question isn't whether you should consider this as an "average" or "incremental" problem, the real question is "does this encourage me to keep wanting to buy more ice-cream?". And the answer is no, hence it's a bad pricing structure.

Some who didn’t …
They are the same price! €1 per scoop! What’s the issue?

Maybe it's just me @MrEdByrne but it kind of makes sense.
1+3 and 2+2 are still more expensive than 4
My hypothesis is that 1,2&3 scoops fit into the same container, a 4th scoop requires a bigger container which is used less and hence cant command a bulk discount. #SimplesLOL

They may even have had a good point about the potential for gluttony.
C’mon mate. I’m buying 8 scoops. Let me have one free….. and yes my family are waiting outside in the car. It’s round the corner, you can’t see them. All right take your 8 euros and shut up about this.

But the real problem seemed to arise when Ed said this –
A surprising number of people seem to be missing the fact that the 3rd scoop is only 50c while the 4th scoop costs 1 €. https://t.co/KjPaHiYPSX
