A digger driver dramatically demonstrated why it’s important to pay workers on time

As government workers in the US are currently aware, a missed paycheck can cause mayhem and unbelievable levels of stress. One digger driver in Liverpool demonstrated how far that can push a person when he turned up on the site of the Travelodge he had been helping to construct to express his severe displeasure at allegedly not being paid the £600 he was owed for his services. This is how he did it.

It’s not a method of protest recommended by any union, resulting as it does in severe danger to so many people, as well as the criminal charges it can’t help but incur, but the incident has certainly grabbed people’s attention.

The Travelodge, which has yet to open and is now unlikely to do so for some time, has already received a few reviews, including this.

The driver, who sounds as though he’s from the south of England and is referred to as “John”, has had a lot of sympathy for his plight, and a gofundme account has already raised more than £5000 to help him out, though he’s likely to need a lot more than that for his legal fees.

In response to a request from director Edgar Wright, Twitter user Oliver Draper tweaked the sound.

Plot twist: according to The Mirror, his colleagues claim their wages were supposed to go in on Friday but were paid on Monday. If it’s true, that’s a bigger scoop than the one he took out of the Reception ceiling.
