As mini budgets go, Rishi Sunak’s much-anticipated Spring Statement wasn’t exactly what you’d call a triumph.
Indeed, most commentators regarded it as a kick in the teeth for people already struggling with the cost of living crisis.
But Sunak was obviously delighted with it, and was so proud of his fuel duty cut (AKA a drop in the ocean) that he posed for a photo filling up someone else’s car at the pumps. Of course he did.
