‘Glastonbury festival 2005 (very wet, people using canoes between submerged tents sort of wet), Supergrass sing ‘Sun Hits the Sky’ as it does – a bit of a magical moment. I suspect they intentionally timed that one when they could see the clouds starting to clear.’

‘Was young and travelling Australia. Met a couple of girls in Perth, then parted ways. I booked a train to Adelaide. A woman was sitting in my booked seat, so instead of arguing I chose another seat. One one of the stops along the way those two girls got on, I was in their seats.’

‘I had Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life as my ringtone on my phone. I was listening to my iPod whilst working and the track just happened to be Bring Me To Life and my phone starts ringing exactly in sync with the track playing, which is why I didn’t notice my phone was ringing until my work-mate tapped me on the shoulder to tell me.’

‘The very first time I ever attempted to play ‘Valerie’ on guitar (in my big shared student house way back when, a mix of friends and strangers), there was a knock on the front door. A couple were at the door, and the guy said ‘Hey I’m Ben, and this is Valerie, we’re your new housemates’. I asked why don’t she come on over, and come on over she immediately did.’

‘Made friends with a properly fckd up dude on a messy night at a tiny acid techno club in Manchester in 1995. Went to Egypt the following summer with a mate. We sorted out an old friend of his to score off. Trekked across Cairo and up into a block of flats, knocked on and who should answer? Fckd up dude.

‘We just stood staring at each other in disbelief. My mate was freaking out. Didn’t end there, turned out he had been to school in Cairo with a lad who came to my school in sixth form, 300 miles from Manchester so totally unrelated. We had a good night.’

‘When I was at uni my GF started having a conversation about where she grew up with one of our mates who we had known for two years by that stage and turned out they had both lived in the same house and had had the same bedroom as kids.

‘What was even more mental was he was Spanish and only lived in the UK for about a year as small kid and it was in that house.’

‘I was on a walk in Bristol in April. One of the other walkers had travelled from Cardiff to join the walk and just after we turned off the Harbourside, she bumped into a woman who she’d been to school with, but hadn’t seen for at least thirty years.

‘The school they attended was in Surrey, and the other woman now lives in the Orkneys and was only in Bristol because she was attending a family wedding.’

‘In 1995, I was at a small bluegrass festival in England. Probably only about 300 people. There was an American woman there. A month later, I was in the USA, on a boat travelling around Lake Powell, and the same woman was there too.’
