Little Englanders were furious a library is being turned into a mosque and the internet told them to shush – 13 oversized comebacks

Did any Churches put in an offer to buy it?
Any synagogues?
Any Buddhist, Hindu or Sikhs?
Did YOU put in a bid to buy a building you didn’t know existed until your paymasters told you to tweet about it?

I lived literally right next to this library for 2 years, there was never anyone in there using it
We are not “losing the building” because the building as a mosque will still look the same and be accessible to non-muslims to appreciate

The building closed in 2015. It’s been empty for a decade. Better to have it used and maintained than fall into rack and ruin.

It belongs to the council and is unused. It has a restrictive covenant limiting what it can be used for. The Muslim Association are going to lease it – they currently use a Catholic hall – and will be responsible for maintaining the building.

Why is it lost?
Why don’t you start using it then?
It’s not surrendering it’s getting used.

I was born in Abergavenny. Storm in a teacup. Not a problem at all. Far better to have beautiful buildings being used by the community than stood open.
