People have been sharing the UK tourist attractions they reckon are wildly overrated – 21 places destined to disappoint (so they say)

‘Skye. It’s BEAUTIFUL, but unfortunately it’s so ridiculously busy now it takes away from it. Other areas of the Highlands are equally as breathtaking but not quite as busy. So maybe Skye isn’t overrated as such but I’d not class it as necessarily better than other areas, but people flock there like it’s the must see area of Scotland.’

‘The huge rip off that is Winter Wonderland. Actually any fairs in the South East of England… you may as well stand with your wallet open while £50 pound notes are liberally taken out… when the kids see the signs go up for the annual one in our local park I can feel my bank account start to sweat!’

‘London Eye. It was good when I went for free. It’s not worth what they are charging (30-40 quid).’

‘Land’s End and John O’Groats. Neither are either the most northerly or southerly points and both are a bit shit.’

‘Does Harrods count? I wanted to buy a bag from there, but I had a suitcase. They told me I needed to pay a fee to store it as I wasn’t permitted to take it into the shop with me, and that fee would be returned if I spent more than [I forgot how much]. So I’d say it’s overrated because they’re tight arsed robbing bastards.

‘Edinburgh castle, I much preferred Craigmillar castle, that’s a proper piece of history!’

‘Portobello Road Market… heaving with tourists.’

‘Wigan Pier. Not near the sea, 21 miles away is the nearest. Also the rave stuff isn’t there either anymore.’

‘Snowdon/ Yr Wyddfa – not because it isn’t a great mountain, it’s just overrated. Too much social media bigs it up, plenty other better mountains and they won’t have a massive queue on the top, nor hoards of people making it feel like you are on the UK’s hilliest high street.’
