I was on a special list to see her backstage. The Congressman presented me with the card the next time we saw one another.’

‘In my garage, I have a 1943 Kelvinator refrigerator. It was purchased brand new by my great grandfather for my great grandmother. She had wanted an electric icebox and they couldn’t afford one. He found this one on sale cheap because it’s a left-handed refrigerator and in those days, it was frowned upon to be left-handed.
The shop owner gave him an even better deal and he took it home and the thing has been running ever since. The only maintenance we have done to it is we changed out the plug and we vacuum out the compressor every once in a while. It runs like a champ and keeps all of our beverages cold.’
