I read Caesar's commentary on the war in Gaul recently, and every time he mentions a heroic soldier by name there's a footnote saying "Caesar owed this guy's dad a bunch of money."

He does turn up again, just not in wool. Domesday Book, twenty years later, lists a Wadard holding land from Odo in several counties. Vital, the other random named rider, is in there too as one of Odo's tenants in Kent. Odo was probably putting his own men in.

Retainer of Odo of Bayeux, the likely commissioner of the tapestry. Likely a case where they were stitching and he just insisted he ought to be included halfway through
