‘Was unemployed and had planned to get up early and go hand out cv’s for retail jobs. My alarm clock that always worked, didn’t go off. I would have been caught by the 7/7 bombings.’

‘I met my husband at a small random beer festival (middle of a Scottish Valley, weekend camping but very small overall). Anyway he only got his tickets the day he arrived, he was supposed to be staying on the Isle of Arran with friends that weekend but the accommodation had double booked.

‘They had to change plans last minute and discovered the festival so headed the total opposite direction instead. We met after a day in the sunshine drinking lots of overpriced real ale!

‘9 years and 3 kids later.’

‘I was travelling in Mexico with a friend and there was a full-day volcano hike on offer in the town we were staying in. We had planned to go, but we waited too long to sign up and they told us the tour was full.

‘We heard the following day that the group who had gone when we were due to go were caught in a freak weather event up the mountain and most of them had died of exposure. Still think about it to this day.’

‘A friend and I are constantly sharing music with each other, and a few years ago we both really got into Neil Frances and wanted to get to a live show. We saw there was a festival coming up in a few months and Neil Frances was on the bill so we got tickets and were really looking forward to it.

‘Fast forward to the day of the festival we discover that Neil Frances wasn’t on the bill, but a completely different act called Neal Francis. Completely different genre.

‘The show was fantastic, and my friend and I still listen to both acts regularly.’

‘The party, at a restaurant, hadn’t even started yet, and one of the other guests was already hitting on me, following me around. So I picked the tallest guy in the room to start a conversation with.

‘That was 44 years ago. Tall guy and I are coming up on 43 years married.’

‘Got off the bus a stop later than normal because I decided to accompany my godmother running an errand rather than just waiting for her at home.

‘Just as I got off the bus, I bumped into a girl that had just left my work at McDonald’s (on the other side of town) who told me that she’d just got a job at the big Tesco and they were hiring tons of staff.

‘Applied to Tesco when I got home. Got the job, doubled my pay, and worked there for the next 6 years. All because I got off the bus a stop later.’

‘Yes. Strangely enough it was also via a Booking.com error. We had to find another cottage with a day’s notice in the same area.

‘By chance, the new cottage was owned by an artist who offered classes. I joined one and my passion for creating art was rekindled! I’m doing lots of oil pastel landscapes now and loving it!’

‘My old landlady was supposed to be in the office for work one day, but for whatever reason decided to call off… the day was 9/11 and the office was in one of the Twin Towers.’

‘Pre Satnav and mobile phone days, me and a girl from our friends group got lost in my car in Wales trying to find an outdoor adventure centre we were all going to.

‘Long story short by 9pm we gave up and got a room in a pub doing B&B. Before that I didn’t really know her, but we ended up in a three year relationship because of that night.’
