REVIEW: Secret Cinema’s latest production is a galactic treat.
Last night The Poke was recruited to join the rebel force in the fight against the evil empire.
Ok. We went to the movies.
Since 2007 Secret Cinema has hosted 45 productions of ‘immersive film’ pulling in over 300,000 punters.
This week the company unveiled their latest and most ambitious project to date The Empire Strikes Back.
If you’re a Star Wars nerd (like me) their latest offering is a must-see.
On arrival you’re given a new identity and your mobile phone is rendered inoperable – sealed in a silver bag.
Before you know it you’re being smuggled aboard a cargo transporter to a galaxy far, far away…
Taking place in a huge, secret (obviously) location in London, last night’s audience was formed by over a thousand fans all dressed up as the rebel alliance.
There’s so much we can’t tell you (house rules) – which makes writing a review nigh on impossible.
The scale of the production is seriously impressive – giant sets (constructed over 18 acres) are recreated with ingenious attention to detail.
An army of actors live out both scripted and improvised routines around you.
Then there are bands and DJ’s and sideshows. You think you’ve visited every room on the site – then another opens up.
There are tasty food stalls and a bar that that really should become a permanent fixture somewhere.
Tickets are £70 (ouch) and your outfit, travel, food and drink are going to bring this up to the £100 mark.
Verdict: A galactic treat. Loved it.
Secret Cinema Presents Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back runs now until 27 September;secretcinema.org/tickets
