A photograph of a potato was sold for £750,000

A photographer famed for portraits of stars such as Johnny Depp, Yoko Ono and Bob Geldof has sold a picture of a humble potato for £750,000, report The Times.

Kevin Abosch sold Potato #345 (an organic Irish potato he photographed in 2010) after the buyer spotted it on his shop wall. “We had two glasses of wine and he said, “I really like that”, reports the Metro.

“Two more glasses of wine and he said: “I really want that”. We set the price two weeks later.”

There are three versions of the potato print in existence – one belongs in his private collection, another was donated to an art museum in Serbia and the third was sold to the unnamed businessman, reports the Independent.

But despite the photographers credentials, the story has naturally triggered plenty of ‘more money than sense’ and ‘call this art?’ discussion/shouting online.

Others commented on the artists merits of the photo.
