‘Trauma ICU nurse here. If it weren’t for alcohol, guns, and motorcycles, I probably wouldn’t have a job. Thanks for keeping us in business.’

‘Drinking and driving. It’s hard to believe so many people still drink and drive these days (with all of the other options available to them!).’

‘Got lost hiking last fall and instead of staying put, I kept walking trying to find the trail. Panic makes you irrational. I wandered off-path for hours, sliding down slopes, tearing up my legs… by the time search and rescue found me, I was hypothermic and barely conscious.
‘If i had just sat down and waited, they would have found me way sooner. Moving blindly is the worst thing you can do.’

‘Search and Rescue here, not wearing life jackets, even a simple swim in the lake. Last water recovery we had was a father swimming with his kid. Wind picked up and he couldn’t make it back, was 30 yards from shore.
‘Second, if you’re going hiking, pack extra water and clothes for cold weather. A storm might come out of no where or you get lost and have to spend the night on the mountain.
‘Which brings me to my next point, tell someone where you’re going and when to expect you back. It helps a ton, if we know where you were headed if we have to look for you.’

‘A lot of this is Medical/Fire so I’ll speak on the Law Enforcement side as a 911 operator. People LOVE to follow or antagonize suspects. Like it’s rare that a person will actually get injured in these cases but you are actively putting yourself in an unknown situation with someone you believe/know to be a criminal who will probably have no qualms attacking you, potentially with a weapon.
‘Hit and run? “He sped off so I’m speeding to catch up to him.” Congrats, you’ve committed a hit and run as well now. Not to mention you’re actively speeding which is dangerous in and of itself.
‘Domestic Disturbance? “He threatened me with a gun so I’m following him in my car with the kids inside.”
‘Suspicious vehicle? “This car circled my neighborhood twice so I followed him 5 miles away so the officers can stop him.”
‘Reckless driver? “I’m following so the officers can find the person.”‘

‘Riding a motorcycle, without question. I have lost track of the number of dead riders I have seen.’

‘When people who have zero training try home remedies before calling 911. Especially burns, been to a few calls where the family tried to put a half dozen kitchen ingredients onto a burn to stop the pain before we got there. They ended up making it worse and increased the scarring of the burn area.’

‘I hesitated calling for my dad’s chest pain because I thought he was exaggerating. He waited too long, and by the time we went in, it was a full-blown heart attack. Never guess. Just call.’
