‘It was clearly a first date sitting in the booth behind us. I could hear him telling his date very passionately about how the Big Bang never happened and the Earth is flat.
‘She gave noncommittal answers and tried to ask questions to find out more about him. He kept talking about how the Feds were after him because he knew “the Truth.” She said that she was going to the bathroom but left.’

‘A lady having a lunch meeting with her lawyer. Heard her whole life story. 3 kids with 3 different fathers, all homeless or on drugs. Another on the way with dad number 4. New guy “has his issues too but has some moments where he’s a good dad and good person.”‘

‘Ooooo I got a good one I’ll never forget.
‘I was at a diner with my grandma. There were these two women a few tables down. One of them kept looking at herself in a small hand mirror while talking to her friend. She seemed very self conscious, holding the mirror at different angles. She kept pointing to her eyes while talking, I figured she’d messed up her makeup that morning.
‘…until she moved her mirror away, looked at her friend and started tapping on her EYEBALL with her nail. It was so loud I could hear it three tables away. Apparently homegirl wasn’t confident with the appearance of her new glass eye!
‘I’m so glad I had a sandwich up to my mouth to hide my half-assed poker face, because my grandma immediately asked what was wrong and I said “you know what, I’ll just tell you in the car!”
‘For the record: her eye looked great. I imagine blue eyes are hard to match, but I never would’ve known if she hadn’t given me such a scare.
‘If you’re reading this and have a glass eye, I hope this helps your confidence. Either way, I hope it inspires you to scare the hell out of strangers by click-clacking on it in public. It was absolutely hilarious.’

‘My wife is fluent in ASL (sign language). She works as an interpreter. We were at dinner when I noticed her staring intently over my shoulder. There were a couple of women in a booth across from us having a very graphic, detailed and long conversation about their sex lives in ASL.’

‘Sat next to Charles Barkley at a Flemmings in LA and heard him tell the table how he only dates women under 25. Then he gave his cell to someone while he walked past our booth. Still have it in my phone because of course you keep that.’

‘Me and 2 friends were having a drink at a really upscale place in DC- the 4 seasons- and at an adjacent table was a middle aged man and a very attractive woman in her early 20s – speculation by us was it must be has daughter except when we overheard her say in that the price was non negotiable and did not include GFE or overnight stay.’

‘We were having lunch in the repurposed wine cellar of a convent in Prague, right next to a Spanish couple. We are American but my wife is Mexican and I lived in Spain – so we both speak Spanish.
‘When the waiter sat us we were speaking in English, because our brutal tourist Czech sucked and the host’s English was perfect.
‘So the Spaniards thought correctly that we were Americans – had no idea we spoke Spanish. They were co-workers at a big European bank, in Prague on a business trip. They were both married. To other people. The lunch was their break-up/farewell meal.
‘They went in to great detail about the tryst – sex in the office after hours, almost getting caught by co-workers; speculation if anyone they worked with knew – which seemed like the reason for the breakup.
‘It got more lurid as they continued to drink – eventually they both started crying at one point.
‘One of the most entertaining lunches EVER.’
